Tasting Notes

A lovely new cuvée based around sites denied the premier cru appellation, the 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé Grands Terroirs Oubliés wafts from the glass with aromas of orange oil, pear, nutmeg, beeswax and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural, with racy acids and a long, mineral finish, it's worth seeking out.

William Kelley, Wine Advocate, September 2022

In 2021 production was so small that Guffens decided to blend together the single vineyard wines from the 1er cru parcel “Les Crays”, with the "very beautiful parcels excluded from the classification of 1ers Crus". These being “Haut de la Roche,” “La Côte” and “Les Vernays”. This will be labelled Les Grands Terroirs Oubliés - a new cuvée for Verget. Pale lemon in colour. Intense, ripe citrus and stone fruit on the nose with a little passion flower, spice box and struck flint. The palate is rich and layered, matching fruit concentration with broad, bright acidity. This layered, ripe and powerful wine has a little Domaine Guffens magic about it, managing smoky, powerful ripeness and taut acidity at once. A brilliant, textural and harmonious wine, this is another example of Jean-Marie's capability to adapt and produce the best possible result in tricky vintage conditions.
