The 2017 Chorey-lès-Beaune Les Bons Ores makes for an impressive beginning to the tasting, bursting from the glass with a beautiful bouquet of rose petals, cherries, beetroot and loamy soil. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, its rich structuring tannins cloaked in succulent fruit. Consumers that don't disdain the humble appellation will be amply rewarded.
Bright ruby colour. The nose marries the bright red fruit of Pinot's youth with the savoury, earthy depth of Burgundy and bottle age, making it deep and enticing. The palate is slick and fine, with the tannins gently chalky and melting nicely into the wine. Leather, dried woody herbs, dried strawberries and redcurrants all come together. There is a touch of smokiness, but it is gentle and adds to the complexity rather than dominating the wine. Fine, savoury and long on the finish.
