Barolo Castellero, Azienda Agricola Brezza 2018

Tasting Notes

The 2018 Barolo Castellero is laced with dark cherry, plum, spice, menthol, licorice and dried flowers. Powerful and ample, with striking depth, the Castellero is another impressive wine in this range from Brezza. There's plenty of richness and mid-palate weight to go along with the wine's brooding personality. Give the tannins a few years to soften. 2023-2033

The Giacomo Brezza e Figli 2018 Barolo Castellero (made with organic fruit) shows more power and textural richness next to the classic Barolo and Cannubi. The power is not measured by a large margin, but it's enough to differentiate this wine from its more subdued and lithe cousin, the Cannubi. The Castellero is aged in large Slavonian oak casks for 24 months, and 5,068 bottles were released. 2024-2038
