Schist Syrah, Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines 2021

Tasting Notes

The 2021 Syrah Schist is completely different from the Granite counterpart, so stony, like just inhaling warm granite at first and gradually, the black fruit grows in stature. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Quite a "bold" Syrah, very focused with an uncompromising steely finish. This just exudes terroir. Drink 2024-2042.

This dryland vineyard on the Mullineux' Roundstone property is one of the world's great Syrah sites, yielding tiny bunches of concentrated grapes. Intensely perfumed and alluring, the resulting wine has notes of lavender and wild thyme, fine, granular tannins and layers of red berries, liquorice and sweet kitchen spices. Drink 2025-32.
