Echézeaux, Domaine Denis Mortet 2021

Tasting Notes

A wonderfully spicy, cool and layered nose reflects notes of star anise, soy, exotic tea and plenty of floral elements, especially violet. The middleweight flavors are not quite as dense as those of the Clos de Vougeot, but they are noticeably finer on the balanced and impressively long finale. This too could use a bit more depth but that is all but certain to occur. In short, this is really good with excellent development potential. 2033+

50% has been made with pedicels, and one third new wood employed for ageing. Medium deep purple. The bouquet has the delicate laciness we love from this vineyard, then starts to put on a bit more power. Some orange rind, otherwise much more in red fruit, less the raspberry of other cuvees. A complex finish with some saltiness from the stems. Delicacy once again in the aftertaste. Drink from 2027-2036.
