2023 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht

Olivier Humbrecht is unquestionably one of the world’s great winemakers. He has overseen some of the finest wines that Alsace has produced and that trend continues unabated with this, the 2023 vintage. These wines have received huge scores from Stuart Piggott of JamesSuckling.com and Anne Krebiehl MW, writing for Vinous.com. These days, the majority of the range is dry and they all have a level of site specificity that is pretty much peerless, especially this year.

The vintage was a very dry one and relatively problem-free, despite the risk of frost in some of the vineyards which was avoided by a later-than-usual budbreak. The favourable conditions have produced wines that are well balanced, with exceptional aromatics and a mid-palate ripeness that tapers to a fresh, acidic finish. The majority of the wines are below 13 degrees alcohol and they all have a phenolic ripeness that will facilitate majestic ageing.

We tasted these wines this month with Olivier and can vouch for their exceptional quality.  They are, quite simply, some of the finest white wines made in the world today. Despite that, they remain extremely reasonably priced.
