Quiñón de Valmira, Palacios Remondo 2025

Tasting Notes

Even though it's still too early, we tasted unbottled samples of the 2025s, including the 2025 Quiñón de Valmira, which again, like the 2023, had a very short maceration of only 13 days and has been in foudre since mid-December. There is a common thread in the unbottled 2025s: they're still very young and in the middle of their élevage, but here the lactic and cereal-like sensations were subtler and milder and seemed to blow off with time in the glass. This comes through as fine-boned and elegant, even when still in the making; the tannins are still abundant and a bit wild but fine-boned. The field blend is similar to the 2024, with 85% Garnacha, 7% Tinta Velasco, 7% Bobal and 1% Moristel, and so where the parameters of 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.59 and 5.15 grams of acidity. It's powerful and concentrated, though it's still in the fermentation vat, so the wine has not even started its élevage and is very raw. But 2025 is going to be a more powerful and concentrated year, with wines that have a deeper color and lots of power. The color should get paler with the aging in oak. This also comes from three hectares, and they expect some 5,500 to 6,000 bottles. It should be bottled in early 2027, depending on how the wine develops. Drink: 2027-2036
