Pungently mineral aromas of kiwi, quinine, ginger and spices. Sweet and rich, but with its strong, fat fruit currently dominated by brisk acidity. Finishes broad and spicy, with noteworthy verve. Very promising.
Made from 40 year old vines in this Premier Cru vineyard in the hamlet of Blagny, on the slopes above the village of Puligny. This is being made in oak barrels of which 25% are new. There will then be final elevage in concrete tanks before bottling. A sunny vintage like 2009 is ideal for the maturation of the fruit in a high altitude vineyard like this. The grapes were picked with good sugar and acidity levels. The resultant wine is rich yet mineral in style with typical Verget freshness. This may turn out to be the best Sous le Puits yet produced by Verget. 300 cases produced.
