Tasting Notes

While the dark ruby/purple-tinged 2006 may not equal the brilliance of the 2005, it is a successful effort exhibiting aromas of coffee beans, roasted herbs, black cherries, plums, and earth. With medium to full body, moderate levels of sweet tannin, and a long finish, this sleeper of the vintage should drink nicely between 2010-2020

Tasted at the château, the 2006 Bellefont-Belcier has a rather distant bouquet, nicely defined, with a touch of shoe polish infusing the black fruit, later a scintilla of Hoisin. The palate is fresh on the entry with good acidity, though the tannins feel a little tough and the finish pulls up surprisingly short. Not a bad Saint Emilion, but based on this showing, I would drink bottles in the near future.
