Tasting Notes

Tart acids are accompanied by hints of cranberries, sweet and sour cherries, flowers, and wet rocks. Medium-bodied, vibrant, zesty, and light, this finesse-styled wine can be consumed over the next 7-10 years.

Solid, with a good core of currant and berry fruit and just a hint of minerals. Medium- to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a caressing finish. Seems better than 2003 and 2002.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator (April 05), April 2005

Attractive, quite savoury blend of integrated fruit and oak. Good life, fragrance and charm with dry - not sweet - fruit that is quite creamy textured and then very fine tannins. Just medium weight but very good balance.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, August 2005

Ripe perfumed dark fruit and a slight caramel note giving an impression of sweetness on the nose, followed by dark spice. Dry but very fine tannins and an elegant cool finish. Fine-grained and nicely balanced. Drink 2009-2014. Date tasted 16th Feb 09.

Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, February 2009

Like Cantemerle’s 2003, the 2004 is a competent but uninspiring effort. A black/purple color is accompanied by notions of licorice and black currants, dry, austere, hard tannins, medium body, huge structure, and a certain astringency. If it fleshes out and the tannin becomes sweeter, it will merit the higher score. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2017.
