Gevrey Chambertin Coeur du Roy, Domaine Dugat-Py 2022

Tasting Notes

Tasted from a bottle that saw fully 24 months' élevage (which will be indicated on the label), the 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Coeur du Roy is much more civilized than it was from barrel, offering up a pretty bouquet of red berries, plums and orange rind mingled with rose petals and incense. Medium to full-bodied, succulent and seamless, with integrated tannins and a lively, harmonious profile, it will offer a broader drinking window than I had originally anticipated. 2027 - 2050

A fresh, cool and airy nose combines notes of wild red currant, earth and a whiff of the sauvage. The super-sleek, intense and beautifully detailed medium-bodied flavors exude a subtle minerality on the youthfully austere, sneaky long and slightly more complex finale. This is a wine that is built to reward a decade or more of keeping yet isn't so compact that it couldn't be enjoyed after 5-ish years. Excellent. Note: from vines of 50 to 100+ years of age situated in Epointures, Combe du Dessus, Jouise, and Les Marchais
