Here the less obviously oaked nose runs more toward the red side of the fruit spectrum before merging into rich and seductively textured broad-shouldered flavors that are also blessed with ample amounts of dry extract that renders the supporting tannins almost invisible on the detailed, youthfully austere and solidly persistent finish.
The 2009 Clos de Vougeot-Musigni is a touch inward at this stage. With time sweet floral notes begin to emerge, but today the Clos de Vougeot-Musigni looks like the wine that has suffered the most in bottling. Still, it is impossible to miss the sheer energy and focus of the dark red fruit. Menthol, licorice and spices add the final layers of complexity of the powerful, incisive close. This parcel of Clos de Vougeot lies adjacent to Musigny. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.
