Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle No. 24 Non Vintage

Tasting Notes

Laurent-Perrier's NV Grande Cuvée Grand Siècle No. 24 is just starting to show the first signs of aromatic and flavor complexity, which makes it a very satisfying Champagne for current drinking. Hints of apricot, lemon confit, white flowers and marzipan grace this wonderfully vibrant, inviting edition of Grand Siècle built on the 2007, 2006 and 2004 vintages. The Grande Cuvée No. 24 is silky, perfumed and classy all the way. Time in the glass brings out the wine's freshness and energy. 2019 - 2029

A blend of the 2007, 2006 and 2004 vintages that was disgorged some six months ago, the NV Brut Grand Siècle #24 will be released this April, and it's beginning to drink well, offering up a complex and already maturing bouquet of dried flowers, mandarin orange, iodine, gingerbread, clear honey and smoke. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and vibrant, with an ample core of fruit complemented by abundant sapid nuances, bright acids and a fine but youthfully frothy mousse. This is an expressive rendition of Grand Siècle that will drink well on release. 2019 - 2029

From magnum. A wonderfully intense and aromatic nose of citric fruits, especially limes with smoky, peppery, toasty, flinty, herbal notes. Impressive and alluring. Very open and appealing. Rose garden perfumes. On the palate the wine is forward, generous, rich and rounded with smoky notes. Very zesty, clean and precise on the end palate too. Real tension, poise and balance. A marvellously long and enduring, zesty finish. This is a fantastic Champagne and absolutely ready to go.

The opulence and freshness with phenolic tension is fascinating. The brioche and lemon tart notes with hints of mangoes and honey are intense and true. Flint undertones. Full-bodied and very layered, with ultra-fine bubbles and a silky and tiny-pearled texture. It’s round and rich with a mineral undertone to the ripe fruit. This magnum edition was disgorged in 2023, while the bottled version was disgorged in 2018. Dosage 7 grams. 55% chardonnay and 45% pinot noir. A blend of 2007, 2006 and 2004. Drink or hold.

What a difference from the No 24 in bottle, released in 2019 and tasted two years ago! Much, much more evolved on the nose than the bottle release. Golden-creamy somehow. Just gorgeous! Tight-knit, like all Grands Siècles, with strong citrus notes, a certain toastiness and a richness on the mid palate that tightens to a dry, appetising finish. Really vigorous and assertive without being too showy. Long and the most luxurious aperitif imaginable. Drinking dates suggested for this magnum release... Drink: 2023-2040

(Vintages: 2007/2006/2004) Medium golden yellow with silver reflections and a fine, lively mousse. A hint of roasted aromas and herbal savouriness on the nose, alongside delicate waves of mocha, orange marmalade and hazelnut. It gains more and more facets with air (use a large glass!). Dense and tightly meshed on the palate, with the silky fruited opulence of fresh, sweet stone fruit backed by mineral and lemony notes on the finish. There's enormous length, and certain ageing potential. The normal bottle has already matured on the lees for twelve years, now it's another five years for the magnum. Simply world class.
