Very fruity with crushed raspberries, flowers, slate, graphite and light white pepper. Cumin and spice with air. It’s medium-bodied with light and delicate tannins and a fresh finish. Delicious already but will age nicely. Drink or hold.
The 2020 Pauillac de Latour is very delineated and focused on the nose, unfolding with graphite-infused black fruit, melted tar and light floral scents. The oak is beautifully integrated here. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe blackberry and blueberry fruit and veins of cassis, luscious and precocious toward the finish. This is one of the more seductive Pauillac wines. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting. 2030 - 2060
The estate's second wine, produced from young vines, less optimally located parcels and any declassified lots, is the 2020 Le Pauillac de Château Latour, an attractive effort redolent of sweet berries, cassis, licorice and petals. Medium to full-bodied, with lively acids, sweet tannins and a penetrating finish, it combines immediate charm with aging potential. 2025 - 2040
Tasted blind at the Southwold Group tasting, where this third wine from Latour beat both second wines from the other first growths in Pauillac. Lively purple colour. The nose is clean and bursting with pure berry fruit which is layered with notes of camphor and cedar. The acids are vibrant, giving energy and approachable tang to the fruit on the palate. Layering black and red fruit together, this sleek and tender Cabernet gives you the medocain character you want, propped up by chalky but not obtrusive tannins. I'd give it another year in bottle (it won't be released before then anyway), and then enjoy it for a decade or more. Long, lightly smoky with a cigar leaf note on the finish.
The 2020 Le Pauillac de Chateau Latour is a blend of 53% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it needs some coaxing to reveal delicate notes of redcurrants, wild blueberries, and crushed plums, plus hints of bay leaves, tree bark, and cracked black pepper. The medium-bodied palate is bright, lively, and energetic, with a grainy texture and minerally finish.
Looking at the three releases from Château Latour, these are all powerful, concentrated, wines that are going to age gracefully. Starting with the 2020 Pauillac, it has ample cassis and darker fruits as well as attractively perfumed aromatics of violets, graphite, and some obvious minerality. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with fine tannins, it's a legit Pauillac to drink over the coming 15+ years.
Aromas of dark berries, licorice and vanilla pod introduce the 2020 Le Pauillac de Château Latour, a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy wine with a generous core of fruit, polished tannins and a giving, open profile. 2025 - 2040
