Tasting Notes

This attractive, fully mature St. Emilion exhibits notes of Christmas fruitcake, licorice, red and black currants, and spice box. Drink it over the next 3-4 years. Drink 2014-2018

A seriously run property (the 1998 is drinking beautifully), Barde-Haut is typically a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The 2003's deep ruby color is accompanied by sweet, earthy, creamy oak, black cherry, raspberry, and blueberry characteristics, excellent concentration, medium body, and a spicy, satisfying finish. It should drink well for 7-10 years.

A superficial, but charming offering, the medium-bodied 2003 reveals licorice-infused berry and cherry fruit along with a touch of vanillin. It exhibits good ripeness on the attack, but narrows in the mid-palate, with an angular, disjointed finish. I am not convinced it will ever fully come together. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2015.

Not nearly as successful as the 1998 or 2000 Barde-Haut, the superficial, low acid, dark ruby 2003 is an elegant, lightweight, soft effort lacking depth. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
