Tasting Notes

The 2023 Morgon Côte du Py comes from several parcels of granite and schistous soils with many centurion vines. This has a wonderful, very complex bouquet with exquisite delineation: crushed stone filters through dark berry fruit alongside hints of ash and light stony scents. The sapid and vivacious palate has filigree tannins, a silver thread of acidity, and a touch of cracked black pepper towards the long finish. This is one of the best Morgons you can buy…but that's old news. Drinking Window 2026 - 2040

A vibrant, floral nose of blood orange, crushed raspberries, sour cherries and freshly cracked pepper is followed by blueberries and bacon fat in the mouth, which finishes with a stony freshness and hint of sherbet at the finish. This is a bold, bouncing wine – super-bright with a palate-cleansing acidity. Drink now and imagine you’re dining en terrasse somewhere close to the Seine, or put it away for five years plus and watch it develop into something far more serious. Lovely wine.
