I loved the 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin 1Er Cru Champeaux, which has the more up-front, soft, charming style of the vintage front and center. Lots of pretty red fruits, flowers, spice, and subtle earthy nuances give way to a more medium-bodied Gevrey with polished tannins, solid mid-palate density and concentration, and a great finish. It's one of those wines that builds nicely over the evening and grows on you with time in the glass. It's drinking brilliantly today yet should have another decade of prime time. (Drink between 2021-2031)
As is often the case this is easily the most floral-inflected nose in the range, and this includes the Clos Sorbès, with its lavender, lilac, violet, red and white rose, dark cherry and earth-suffused aromas. There is fine intensity and detail to the medium-bodied flavors that display ample minerality on the delicious and balanced finale. I was surprised though by the absence of the usual excellent complexity though it's entirely possible that this will develop more than I presently imagine with time in bottle.
