The 2021 Résonance Vineyard cuvée is crafted from ungrafted pinot noir vines that were planted in 1981. The complex bouquet is black fruity and precise, wafting from the glass in a mix of dark berries, espresso, bitter chocolate, bonfire, dark soil tones, a dollop of fresh thyme and a deft framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and complex, with a fine core of black fruit, superb soil signature and grip, ripe, well-integrated tannins and lovely balance on the long and classy finish. The ungrafted vines here seem to give the Résonance Vineyard bottling a slight leg up in terms of refinement than the lovely Découverte Vineyard cuvée this year. Drink between 2034-2075.
