Perhaps the format size benefits the 1962 Ducru-Beaucaillou today, poured from magnum in this tasting. It offers deep red fruit, tobacco and cedar like the standard bottling, yet it possesses more intensity and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with lovely balance—quite saline, with a sapidity towards the finish that urges you back for another sip. This actually replicates a stunning bottle I drank 16 years earlier. Tasted at the 1962 dinner in Burgundy.
