Tasted single blind against its peers. The Nairac 2007 has a beautiful bouquet with lime, tropical fruit, a touch of marmalade and pure quince. It has certainly opened up in recent months. The palate is very well-balanced with racy acidity, very citrus-driven at first and fanning towards a generous, honey-rich barley sugar finish that shuts down on the finish. Watch this little gem unfold with time?
Yikes. This is very thick and powerful, with masses of ripe, spicy, botrytised fruit. Full and rich, yet fresh and interesting. Looking forward to watching this wine's evolution
Especially cloudy. Interesting essence of pear nectar. I feel as though you could stand a spoon in it. Very particular – a bit beery. Not completely pure. Dry wood tannins on the finish. Good fresh acidity but nothing is knit yet
Sample was very cloudy, but the orangey, zesty citrus fruit flavours show promise and there is real concentration. Could move up
This Barsac has supreme purity on the nose, but it is tightly coiled at the moment. Very fine definition with notes of honey, tangerine, quince juice and minerals. The palate is just gorgeous: a vibrant entry with very fine acidity, honey, barley sugar, apricot, white peach and a touch of mandarin. If I am to quibble, then perhaps it is not quite demonstrating the length I was hoping for, but this remains an excellent Nairac, an estate that is producing better wines than ever. Drink now-2040.
A blend of barrels taken by Nicolas Tari. A total of 46 barrels produced. This sample taken before any racking has taken place although there will probably be one in May (instead since the 2004 vintage, the wine rests upon its lees with batonnage dependent upon each barrel.) A more Semillon based Nairac: 95% Semillon, 2.5% Muscadelle and 2.5% Sauvignon Blanc. This has a rich honeyed nose with good delineation, touches of orange blossom and quince paste. The palate is lively with good level of botrytized fruit, a little frizzante with a lively zesty finish. This is a zesty, lively Nairac with more joie-de-vivre than other vintages. This is a great Chateau Nairac marrying purity, puissance, elegance and tension. Long-term potential. Sublime. Drink 2010-2045. Tasted April 2008
