A smoky overtone suggesting a synergy of site typicity and botrytization caps the more familiar scents of peach and tangerine in Loosen's 2010 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese, then segues into a rather opaque though both rich and buoyant palate. Like the corresponding Sonnenuhr though in a different way, this is quite confectionary, featuring candied tangerine and lemon rind, caramel apple, and a suggestion of sucking on an herbal lozenge. It may well prove worth following for two or more decades, though I wonder whether it will gain in clarity or complexity.
