Tasted at l’Eglise-Clinet, the 2009 is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. It has a very powerful, lifted bouquet with blackberry, wild hedgerow and a touch of dried blood. The palate is medium-bodied but with very good weight and vigour. Fine purity here, raspberry, wild strawberry and a touch of spice coming through towards the finish. Great persistency with a hint of Schezhuan pepper on the aftertaste. Tasted September 2011.
This estate, owned by L'Eglise Clinet's Denis Durantou, has produced a dense purple-colored, relatively backward wine with a nose of creme caramel, white chocolate, black cherry and black currant. The wine is medium to full-bodied, very pure, elegant and in need of several years of cellaring. It should last for 10-15 years.
Blueberry and loads of darks fruit on the nose. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and silky tannins. Juicy finish.
This 25 acre property in Lalande de Pomerol is situated 1 km from the famous plateau of Pomerol, and is visible from the back door of Eglise Clinet. The Château was purchased in 2000 by Denis Durantou who ages the crop in 50% new oak and relegates fruit from the younger vines to his La Chenade label. Often better than many Pomerols and Saint Emilions that we taste, yet moderately priced thanks to the appellation. The 2009 is 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Picked 15th to 28th September. A mouthful of red fruit here with good bite. Pure red cherry on the palate with a touch of chocolate. Lovely, focused and refined. Great wine and should be good value.
The nose is fleshed out with ripe fruit, lots of black cherry but also behind is bramble upfront and sweet. Plum mixes with blackcurrant on the palate, the fleshiness helped by the ripeness of the tannins but there is nothing jammy about the wine with enough red fruit freshness to balance. Drink 2015-2030.
Attractive fruit with freshness and good length. Consistent value and quality. Drink 2013-2020.
A brilliant effort from proprietor Denis Durantou, this wine (80% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon) hit 14.5% natural alcohol. Rich mocha and black cherry notes are followed by a powerful, lavishly rich, almost extravagant style of wine that is almost atypical for Lalande de Pomerol, yet the purity, richness, and density are all there. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. (Tasted two times.) Drink 2010-2025.
Picked between 15th and 28th September, a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, this has a ripe, quite rounded nose with red-berried fruit, a hint of apricot and mulberry with moderate definition. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, sturdy tannins, great depth of flavour with blackberry, cassis, a touch of spice and in the background a hint of something more exotic: yellow plum and apricot. Mouth-filling, quite extroverted towards the finish. Very fine.
