Charmes Chambertin VV, Domaine Bachelet 2008

Note: from a .44 ha parcel of 90+ year old vines situated directly across from Chambertin; the yields are so low and the vines so exposed that Bachelet says that he always harvests this parcel first

Tasted out of barrel at the Domaine. Wonderful purity on the nose, dark cherries, a touch of cassis and dark plum - very "Charmes" with superb definition. This is a slight honeyed nose coming through as a sign of the ripeness. The palate is silky smooth, beautifully balanced and poised, amazing clarity and definition with an utterly harmonious, silky smooth finish. The Charmes is exceptional for the vintage and one of 2008s standout successes. Tasted November 2009.
