Rivesaltes, Prieure du Monastir del Camp 1948

Tasting Notes

The 1948 Rivesaltes from Chateau Prieure du Monastir del Camp has more intensity on the nose compared to the 1948 with prune, fresh dates, camphor and quince - utterly glorious! The palate is very well balanced with superb weight. There is a gentle grip in the mouth, suggesting a little more backbone than the '50, with tangy Seville orange marmalade, cloves, Chinese 5-spice and then it winds down to a gentle finish that urges another sip. Delicious.

Mahogany red, tawny rim, burnt orange peel nose, warm and smooth on the palate with nicely lifted acidity, a little softer than the 1950.

This fabulous old Rivesaltes was produced from 70% black Grenache and the rest white grapes and not bottled until 2013. A mahogany brown colour with intense sweetness and complexity.
