Gigondas L'Argnee VV, Perrin - Château de Beaucastel 2015

Tasting Notes

Coming from very old vines planted in the sandy part of the appellation (Gigondas is mostly limestone soils), the 2015 Gigondas L'Argnee Vieilles Vignes was brought up in a mix of tanks and foudre, and there are just 100 cases made. This deep ruby colored 2015 has tons of minerality as well as sensational notes of black raspberries, savory spice, dried herbs, and graphite. Rich, full-bodied and tannic, it needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years and is going to shine over the following decade or more.

The 2015 Gigondas L'Argnee is 100% Grenache, drawn from a prephylloxera parcel of 130-year-old vines on deep sand. It captures the light, floral essence that Grenache is capable of under these conditions, adding delicate berry fruit and finishing with amazing elegance and length. It is the Chambolle of Gigondas.

Delicious menthol and raspberry aroma with perhaps a touch of volatile acidity (acetone aroma). Expressive, opulent, rich, extrovert.
