This 25 hectare property in Margaux is owned by the Miailhe family who used to own Pichon Lalande and a part of Chateau Palmer. The vines average 30 years of age with some going back to the 1920s. The quality has improved enormously recently and the 2015 was very highly praised (quite rightly) by the critics. Consultant is Hubert de Bouard of Angelus. Edouard Miailhe gave us a very impressive tasting and we expect this wine to be good value. It is made from a nearly equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with 10% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Maturation in 35% new oak.
From an estate in the southern part of Margaux, this wine has just the right mix of rich tannins and taut black-currant flavors to give upfront freshness and potential for further aging. Structured and fruity, it should be drunk from 2027. 14.5%
The 2018 Siran, picked from September 20 until October 18, is raised in around 33% new oak (as usual). It has an intense, focused nose of vibrant black fruit, more floral than its peers, with violet and incense aromas. The palate is framed by pliant tannins and crisp acidity, and delivers gentle grip and signs of graphite toward the finish. An accomplished Siran that is going to give 20-plus years of drinking pleasure. 2023 - 2042
This is a solid Siran with blackberries and hints of hazelnuts and chocolate. Full body and chewy tannins that are soft and polished. Shows depth and density.
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Siran wafts out of the glass with very pretty scents of red roses, cinnamon stick, chocolate-covered cherries and fragrant earth, giving way to a core of warm cassis and plum preserves, plus a touch of camphor. The medium to full-bodied palate is absolutely laden with rich, juicy black fruits, supported by velvety tannins and plenty freshness, finishing long and perfumed. This very classy, absolutely delicious Margaux tastes great now, but it will reward 3-4 years of cellaring and has the stuffing to continue thereafter for 20+ years.
Another impressive Margaux in this vintage. It's a big wine with real structure and ageing ability, but it isn't too tight and is not too obviously pushing its agenda. This is a lovely Siran packed full of tannins, fruit and acidity - the triumvirate. It has excellent mouthfilling blackberry and pepper notes, with a pretty high kick of acidity on the finish, marked by its Petit Verdot.
Harvest ran from 20 September to 13 October, with a yield of 45hl/ha. It is planned to age the 2018 in 35% new oak for 12 months. 1% Cabernet Franc makes up the blend.

Tasted blind. Perfume. Then sweet and round. Grabs attention. Quite ambitious but also Margaux-like. Grainy finish. 14.5%
Drink 2026 – 2040
45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc; 35% new oak. Barrel sample.
Black as the ace of spades. Lifted and fragrant with sweet blueberry fruit. Really pretty and inviting, just a hint of vanilla sweetness. On the palate, firmer and drier but it’s a complete whole and gently handled, the tannins smooth though compact and slightly blocky at the moment. (JH) 14%
Deep ruby in colour, with spicy black fruits, mulberries and cassis on the nose. The palate is peppery with hints of violet and rose under black cherry. The tannins are dense and chalky, adding something savoury and taming the hint of warmth in alcohol. Long and fleshy on the finish.
The 2018 Siran, picked from September 20 until October 18, is raised in around 33% new oak (as usual). It clearly possesses more fruit concentration than the previous vintage, presenting aromas of raspberry and wild strawberry and veins of blue fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and better weight and body than the 2017. The texture is a little grainy at the moment, but there is plenty of freshness on the pliant finish. Edouard Miailhe has overseen a very fine Margaux that will offer 20 years of drinking pleasure. 2022 - 2040
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Siran opens with quietly spoken notions of baked blackberries, blackcurrant cordial and bay leaves with hints of scorched earth, tar and tobacco. The full-bodied palate is restrained and elegantly played with subtle earth layers among the black fruit and a solid foundation of ripe, grainy tannins, finishing with earth and mineral nuances.
