Côte Rôtie La Landonne, Domaine Jean-Paul Jamet 2019

Tasting Notes

The 2019 Côte Rôtie Landonne is legendary stuff and one of those wines that will stop you in your tracks. Dense purple, with full-bodied aromas and flavors of dark, smoky fruits, smoked game, iron, and peppery herbs, it has incredible purity of fruit, perfect balance, and masses of silky, polished tannins. It’s going to demand a decade of bottle age, but this is magical.

Deep ruby purple colour. Very youthful and a little stubborn to reveal itself on the nose at the moment. Ripe blueberries and forest fruit come together with a little spice and black olive. The palate shows the same dense youthfulness. This is ripe and deep but hard to unravel at this moment. Darker, fuller and more fruit-driven in profile with a dense, bold structure, it is hard to read but shows good potential. I would be interested to try this at a decade old, if I am ever given the chance to try it again! (TP)
