The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Argillats 1er Cru has a cohesive nose with taut and fresh black cherries and raspberry fruit. It’s energetic and focused, with just a background scent of pencil shavings. There’s plenty of complexity here, a cut above some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied, with slightly chalky tannins, a high-toned mixture of red and blue fruit, gentle grip and a slightly oaky finish, but that will be subsumed with bottle age. Promising. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2026-2045)
A restrained yet quite pretty nose reflects notes of dark berry liqueur, earth, lavender and a discreet dollop of oak. There is very good density to the caressing and delicious medium-bodied flavors that exude event minerality on the youthfully austere, focused and notably firmer finale. This needs to add depth, but the underlying material appears to be present such that this could gradually occur. Note: from a .40 ha parcel of vines that average about 40 years of age
Bright mid purple. A slight smell of wet wool, which soon blows off. Actually, there is a fine density of pure and concentrated fruit, prettily balanced with good acidity and the tannins are not too drying. This oak will assimilate to leave an attractive and balanced Nuits-St-Georges. Tasted Sep 2023.
