Nuits Saint Georges Les Saint Georges, Domaine Robert Chevillon 2014

Tasting Notes

Outstanding
A discreet application of wood easily allows the ultra-pure and fresh aromas of essence of red currant, spice and soft earth aromas to have center stage. The detailed and almost painfully intense middle weight plus flavors display evident minerality with focused power, all wrapped in a balanced, serious and obviously built-to-age finale. This is clearly a powerful and serious effort yet there is a certain finesse present as well. Even so, I would suggest that you not buy this absent the express intent to cellar it for at least 7 to 8 years first. Drink: 2024+

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les St-Georges has a clean and pure bouquet; although at the moment, there appears to still be some new oak to be subsumed. But I like the sensuality of these aromatics that are more 2015 in style than 2014. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy opening: dark cherries, allspice, a pinch of white pepper and a slightly herbaceous, verbena tea-tinged finish that gently fans out. Quintessential, modern-day Chevillon really—superb. Tasted September 2017. Drink Date 2018 - 2038
