Tasting Notes

A seductive, classic Pomerol in its open-knit, forward display of roasted coffee scents intermixed with caramel, black cherry jam, and some sweet, toasty oak, this is a lush, medium to full-bodied, dark ruby-colored wine with good flesh, low acidity, and excellent purity.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator, March 2003

Deep, glossy crimson. Toasty nose. Solid, cheerful, plump, very representative Pomerol. Hides nothing. Perhaps no great hidden depth. What you see is what you get. (Tasting note for a bottle with the Clos René label - which is the same wine)

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, August 2005

This wine is the same as Clos René, but is labelled separately for a Bordeaux negociant. A deep garnet colour in the glass, this has a nose of leather and sweet spice with a touch of dried cherries. The palate is smooth and round, with the sweet fruit of a ripe vintage and the notes of leather and undergrowth that come with maturity. The finish is mellow and earthy, indicating that this wine is fully mature and perfect to drink now. An absolute bargain for mature Pomerol!
