Jamie Kutch has become one of our favourite winemakers in the USA. The ex-stockbroker makes pure, ethereal Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from some of California's marginal, cool vineyards. These are magical, affordable wines that punch well above their price point, particularly when compared to their peers.

We recently tasted the newly-released 2024 vintage, a dazzling set of wines driven by salinity, acidity and moreish, ethereal fruit. They are carefully handled, refreshing and light on their feet, the kind of wines you want to drink by the bottle rather than by the glass.

The straight Chardonnay is always a staff favourite and so it proves again, all preserved lemons and pressed flowers, you can enjoy it now or over the coming decade. The price has also reflected the market and is down to just £30 a bottle in bond. That is also the case for the Pinot Noir, which offers an airy, complex bouquet of flowers and refreshing, lip-smacking freshness on the palate that Galloni admits gives it "tons of charm" in his 92 point review.

The single-vineyard expressions are unsurprisingly studded with hits. We particularly loved the Bohan Salt Point Chardonnay, an expressive, spicy and tangy wine loaded to the brim with energy. The same can be said for the Mindego Ridge Pinot, which is charged with whole-bunch aromatics and crunchy, al dente fruit. There is so much to love in this range of 2024s from Kutch, which Galloni scores from 92 all the way to 97 for the top Pinots.

Those initiated with these wines will love these latest releases, and those yet to try them will find these expressive wines ideal for drinking this summer or over the coming 10-15 years. The wines are all packed in cases of 12 and will be available for delivery in late Autumn 2026.
