These wines need little introduction – they are the pinnacle of what Bordeaux produces and are amongst the finest wines in the world. Grand Cru Burgundy is the most obvious competition in terms of just what is the best, though no other wine region produces such consistency and reliability of excellence at the top as Bordeaux. Moreover – if making the comparison to Burgundy, Bordeaux offers remarkable value, even at this level.
Prices have been softening over the past year and there is a great deal of Bordeaux that looks like an increasingly attractive buy, particularly so when looking at mature or maturing wines that often carry little or no premium over their younger counterparts.
